6 Alarming Side Effects Of Not Drinking Enough Water

6 Alarming Side Effects Of Not Drinking Enough Water
May 29, 2022AdminConditions And Treatment

Discover the alarming side effects of not drinking enough water.

Water makes up around 80% of a person’s body. Every organ, cell, and tissue in our bodies requires water to function properly, which is why elders must drink enough water every day.

If you have trouble remembering to drink water during the day, fill a water bottle in the morning and keep it close by to keep track of how much you’re drinking. According to Dr. Moghaddam, eating water-dense fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, melons, berries, lemons, and limes is a fantastic method to boost your fluid consumption.

What Are The Side Effects Of Not Drinking Enough Water?

Whatever you do, make sure you get those six to eight glasses of water; otherwise, dehydration can lead to a slew of issues. Here are a few of the negative effects of not drinking enough water:

1. Bowel function is sluggish.

Dr. Moghaddam explains that the colon has water receptors that suck water from the body to soften the feces. “Hard stools and constipation, as well as abdominal pain and cramps, stomach pain could be common side effects if you don’t drink enough water.”

2. Dull Skin.

Dehydration manifests itself on your face as dry, ashy skin that appears less luminous, plump, and elastic.

3. Persistent headaches

When you’re dehydrated, one of the first symptoms you’ll notice is a throbbing headache. What’s the good news? If dehydration is the cause, it should go away once a large glass of water is consumed.

4. Fatigue.

Your energy levels may drop, and you may experience lethargy and brain fog could be side effects of not drinking enough water. So, the next time you go for another cup of coffee, consider whether you really need water.

5. Gaining weight.

Does not drinking enough water cause weight gain? “Sometimes people confuse thirst for hunger and eat more when they actually only need to drink more,” Dr. Moghaddam explains. “Drinking a glass of water can occasionally alleviate hunger signs.”

6. Inadequate Water causes dry mouth.

Dry mucous membranes, or a lack of saliva, can occur as the side effects of not drinking enough water. Talking, swallowing, and even breathing can become difficult because of this. Fortunately, drinking water is a simple solution.

If you have heart failure, bear in mind that you don’t want your body to retain too much fluid, since this will make your heart work harder. Aim for a total daily fluid intake of less than two liters. If you have any concerns, speak with your doctor to determine what is best for you.

While six to eight glasses of water is recommended for everyone else, going far beyond that won’t benefit you—in fact, too much water might cause brain enlargement and fluid overload. To prevent the side effects of not drinking enough water listed above, ensure to keep healthy, strike a happy medium of six to eight glasses every day.
